Road Race League Event 7

The last Thursday in the Tour de France may have been full of surprises but there were none in the seventh event in the Road Race League series. Inevitably the scratch group reached everyone before the finish. Perhaps a bit quicker than anticipated by catching everyone in three laps and Marloe Rodman showed what a powerhouse he is, spreading the rest of the field well behind him.

Group one was Phil Bixby, Andy Noble, Sebastian Pickard, David Kennedy, James Westmoreland, Terry Parker, Steve Green, Rob McElnea, Sam Hoad, Tom MacDonald, Nicola Moore, Tim Davison, Adrian Marsh and Jonathon Snowdon,

In group two we had Cameron Brooks, Brad Palmer, Rob Stones, Lee Coulson, Craig Medcalf, Paul Campbell, Nicholas Fairfield, Glen Harrison, Chris Hutchinson, Tom England, Paul Drop, Gerry Lumb, Andrew Carroll, Richard Cutsforth, Stuart Fletcher, Simon Pickering and Derek Palmer.

Starting in group three was Paul Rymer, Stewart Pickard, Steve Johnson, Gary Trees, Theo Brumhead, Mark Walker, Mark Mckeown, Rob Brown, , Garry Fulstow, Tony Goundry, Mark Robinson, Neil Dean, Benjamin Bell, John Hopper, Paul Waddington, David Atkin, Steve Macklin and Gary Knowles.

Group four comprised Peter Fielding Smith, David Brearley, Karl Downs, Dan Keena, Mel Blackford, Jason Young, Stephen Swales, Lewis Jackson, Rob Busby and Dean Fulstow.

Finally the scratch group five was made up of Marloe Rodman, Nathan Wilson, Steven Guymer, David Shackleton, Chris Daddy, Richard Moore, Ben Ives, James Gullen and Matthew Fenton.

The riders are now spread more widely across the groups and I’m sure you have a better race because of it. Naturally the scratched riders come out strong in the end and you can only make yourself a better rider by competing alongside of them. It was very fast tonight and I think everyone was really tested. Young Paul Rymer of VC Beverley proved his worth coming 6^th
alongside Chris Daddy; they say sprinters are born not made but they have to be there at the finish. Here’s the lap times:

Dave Shackleton maintains his lead in the overall points competition and can only be passed by Chris Daddy who is six points behind him; I’ll bet Nathan Wilson regrets that bit of cyclo-cross he tried towards the finish in event four.
