Jim’s Training Session #8

Saturday 22nd February was decent day at last; I thought we weren’t going to get one this year. Numbers doubled from last week and I got the impression that a few were sorry this was the last session.  Just to celebrate this lapse in the weather pattern we decided to do ten laps of the Sproatley circuit.

Five started in group one: Paul Shepherd, Nick Rogers, Andy Faichney, Tony Goundry and Karl Downes.

Group two, starting a minute behind, was Jamie Adams, Mike Bradley, Barry Warren, Stewart Fraser, Andrew Miller and Matt Beaumont.

I tried to split the remainder into two sixes but a quick change of mind by some and a sudden surge set the last group as a round dozen to start. They were Dave Hudson, Glen Harrison, Mike Kilgour, Brad Palmer, Richard Dearing, Paddy Nolan, Mark Rogers, Victoria Hood, Matthew Oglesby, Callum Keenan, Stuart Fletcher, Jim Stephenson, who were joined by Shaun Nicholson.

There was an incident after a rider banged the top of a car. Whatever the reason, please don’t do it; if a driver is somewhat aggressive he only becomes more abusive and takes it out of the marshals. Best forget it.

Training is all about reaching for the next level and Richard and I hope you’ve gained something from this group riding. In spite of the inclement weather this year the support has been quite good with 82 different people taking part. Paul Shepherd and Victoria Hood came to every one, and three riders, Dave Hudson, Jamie Adams and Mike Bradley, missed only one session.

This week Jill Bradley, Nick Fairfield, John Weaden, Will Thomas, George Leighton and Mick Adams did the marshalling, and Sheila, Richard and me did the rest. Help has been quite forthcoming this year so thanks to everyone who’s contributed.

I broke my hand during the week and Will Thomas helped with the pics. The dramatic ground shots are his.

Good luck with your racing and keep getting the miles in. Why not join Richard’s club runs on Sundays when you’re not racing?
