East Yorks Road Race League – Sproatley results

Thank you all for making the Sproatley event a success, both racing and marshaling. It was Hull Thursday’s event to host and Mark Walker did a great job in organising the troops. A few unforeseen problems though – a car crash, a blocked road junction and a detour..!

The evening started bright and sunny and quite warm for the time of year unfortunately fog rolled in towards the end of the 4 lap race turning it chilly.

The first event is difficult to handicap into 4 starting groups, a few unknown riders, some riders on a flyer to the new season, and some still stuck in winter.

Group 1 was caught and passed by Group 2 on lap one.

Group 3 caught and absorbed Group 2 on lap four. This group stayed just clear of the Scratch group to contest the finish.

Richard Dean and Shaun Nicholson finished with the front group. Unfortunately Andy Abbott was blown out the back of the race on lap 3.

Mark Walker, Neil Dean, Will Thomas, Danny Posnett, Charlie Carruthers,George Leighton,Andy Carroll,Matthew Johnson and Paddy Nolan have all now completed their marshalling duties and will be racing at all the remaining events.

Amanda Dean is the League’s first aider and also help out with the signing-on before the race.

Neil Prendergast and Mark Walker set up and gathered in the race signs etc as well as marshalled. Lead cars were driven by Mike Barratt, Andy Carroll and Mark Robinson. Les Barratt rode out and marshaled, and Barry Trotter assisted his son John on the finish line.

The handicapping/groups will be altered next time with some riders changing groups. Don’t worry about it, just get some more training in!

There are still plenty of spaces for anyone else wanting to enter and race in the series, so please tell your clubmates. Contact Andy Abbott to find out how to enter (details below).

The next event is on Thursday 8th May at Little Weighton. Extra marshals are needed with it being a large course so please help and keep racing alive – turn up and volunteer to marshal.

Thanks again.
