EY Road Race League #4 – Novice Barratt wins

Etton on 5th June was the first East Yorkshire Road Race League event with any sunshine.

The race started with only three start groups, Groups one and two were large, but the scratch group set off with only 3 riders (mainly due to Squadra RT riders doing the marshalling and driving lead cars).

In the first 3 laps of the race Groups two and three made big gains into Groups 1’s lead, yet over the next 3 laps the gaps stayed the same.

On the final lap I think group one realised they would be contesting the finish and increased their lead.

Rhys Barratt jumped off the front of the group on the base of the hill after the final corner. He was expected to be caught in the dip before the final rise but he kept his head down and was fully committed to the finish line. Rhys crossed the line 50 metres clear of the group. He is a true novice and only started racing at the Sproatley event at the end of April.

First year junior Billy Robinson powered over the line to take the bunch sprint.

Result from East Yorkshire Road Race League event #4 is as follows:

After 3 events the league is still close at the top, with a different winner at each of the events so far, so placings are starting to look very important.

The next event is on Thursday 19th June at Kilham on the Rudston road. PLEASE NOTE that the race starts at 7:30pm, half-an-hour latter than usual time.

There is not a lot of change in the league positions as it was another new winner. Most of the Squadra RT riders gained 5 valuable marshalling points.

Hope to see you at the next race.
