Who was George Ely?

George Ely was a life member of Hull Thursday road club. He joined the club in 1931 and became a national cycling star. In 1933 George won 9 consecutive open and club time trials and went on to break and set many course records.

George died in April 2006 and it was his family’s request that an event be held in his memory. George was known for liking longer distance or hard courses and I am sure he would feel honoured to have this event carry his name.
