In less than ideal conditions riders assembled at Newport Village hall on Saturday afternoon. The clouds had been looming since lunch time and a few spots of rain had been felt. Some who had entered were waiting to see what the weather did before deciding to ride. As it was being held on the V718 course people were after fast times and maybe a PB.
Times were not as quick as an event held on the same course a few weeks before, but with a winning time of 19.29 Simon Bridge (Manchester Wheelers) was still pretty fast. Andy Wilkinson (Port Sunlight Wheelers) was second, two seconds slower; apparently he rode it on a mountain bike with road tyres! The fastest woman was Rebecca Rimmington (Bio Cadenza RT) in a time of 22.58.
Neil Cleminshaw was the fastest HTRC rider with a time of 21.24, (18th overall) winning the Maurice Blenkinsop Memorial Trophy. Neil was proud to be presented the trophy by Maurice’s daughter Jan.
Other HTRC riders were Jim Trevor 22.46, Phil Tillison 23.52 and Richard Guymer 25.09.
A big thank you to all who helped, before and on the day, without their help the event would not have been possible.

Neil Dean wins the Barton Wheelers LVRC Australian Pursuit at Barton on Humber on Saturday 14th April, with Rob Stones collecting the points prize for winning the most primes and also finishing 10th overall. On a cold, wet and windy day 39 starters braved the elements and the rough road surface which the council had promised to repair, but hadn’t. There were no riders from groups G & H, so the Es & Fs made their escape and were caught for 4 and 3 minutes by the Ds & Cs forming a large bunch. The Bs and As starting a further 2 and 3 minutes back respectively formed another bunch, but were only able to reduce that deficit 1 minute 30 seconds. Not wanting to leave the result to a bunch sprint, Neil Dean went to the front with 800m to go and, with everyone feeling the strong cross wind, upped the pace and led to the finish. Overall Result:
