And you are:

I’m Mark, current road and track secretary for Hull Thursday RC. I’ve been a club member for 11 years now and have picked up some decent results over the years and learnt a fair few things along the way. I’ve been road racing since 2008 and picked up my first win in 2009. My main strength is climbing but I still need to work on my group riding skills before I start thinking about challenging for wins at the higher categories. In general I’m a fairly quiet person who has plenty of enthusiasm for cycling.

Bikes you currently ride:

  • Scott (main road bike)
  • Trek (winter bike)
  • Felt B16 (TT bike)

Average miles covered in a week:

  • 130

Goals for this season:

  • Hull Thursday’s Spring Road Race
  • To get enough BC points for a 2nd cat licence
  • A few top tens in the East Yorkshire Road Race League
  • Win another time trial in the club’s TT series
  • 22 minute 10 mile TT

Favourite Rider:

  • Tom Boonen

Best place you’ve ever ridden:

  • The Alps/Dolomites. The Passo Gavia was a fantastic climb.

Favourite thing about cycling:

  • The fact that you can go pretty much wherever you want.

Most embarrassing moment on a bike:

  • Falling into a ditch full of sewage at Seacroft Wheelers Road Race a couple of years ago (I stunk on the ride home).

Memorable achievements:

  • 1st in opening round of 2009 Road Race League series
  • Promoted to 3rd Category in 2008
  • 1st in final round of HTRC TT Series 2013, the Jack Kirk Column at Sproatley
  • Club’s Best Road Rider 2012 and 2013
