And you are:

  • Hi, I am Neil Cleminshaw, and I first joined Hull Thursday RC with my family back in 1981 aged 11, then too young for the RTTC rules; I recall having to wait until 1982 to compete in my first club events. The Following year saw me progress to Criteriums in addition to the regular Club and Open Time Trials, back then Hull’s West Park was where youngsters cut their teeth at ‘mass-start’ events and began learning their race-craft.
  • I’ve won multiple club championships over the years and in open road races have had several 2nd places and many top 10 placings plus team wins, but regretfully that solo RR victory eluded me. 2001 was my best season and I amassed 126 points, which was more than the 100 required at that time to see me progress to 1st Category status. I competed in several Premier Calendar events, including the Lincoln Grand Prix, The East Riding Classic 2 day and Staffordshire’s Gun Hill, even racing a Criterium in France featuring a cobbled climb (Segre’ Loire Atlantique) placing a creditable 12th whilst amongst some hot competition.
  • Consistently competing in Time Trials, the ultimate race of truth, before, during and after my Road Racing seasons; now I find focussing on one discipline, driven to try and still get the best out of myself at that in addition to maintaining a sport-work-life balance works best for me.
  • Since becoming a Veteran for the 2010 season, I’ve managed to achieve personal course best times on several courses, surprisingly bettering my youthful years. I’ve set and improved upon Vets records for both 10 and 25 miles, and hope to raise the bar even higher still.
