Another good evening, a little breezier and everyone was together after six laps; a chance for the sprinters to show. 

The groups were:

Group One

Rob Stones, Gary Knowles, Glen Harrison, Nick Irwin, Richard Guymer, Jodie Brumhead, Paul Drop and Phil Shaw

Group Two

David Atkin, Chris Holland, Martin Oliver, Phil Bixby, Neil Dean, , Derek Palmer, Gary Trees, Brad Palmer, Richard Cutsforth, Tim Jackson, Nathan Chester, Lee Coulson and Andrew Carroll.

Group Three

Tony Goundry, Benjamin Bell, Mark Walker, Mark Robinson, Paul Waddington, Matthew Enticknap, Steven Waterall, Lee Watson, Rob Brown, Steve Macklin, Christian Jordan, Paul Hickman, Adam Oliver and James Wagstaff.

Group Four

David Brearley, Steve Ward, Rob Busby, Stephen Swales, John Brearley, Ryan MacLachlan, Dean Fulstow, Thomas Atkinson, Jason Young and Colin Baldwin.

Group Five

Adam Duggleby, Steven Guymer, Matthew Fenton, David Shackleton, Chris Daddy, Nathan Wilson, Richard Moore and Peter Fielding-Smith.

All groups were working well tonight, the slightly more difficult conditions tonight favours the more gifted riders. Jason Young’s return to group four kept that group moving helping Steve Swales and Dean Fulstow maintain a fast pace. Nevertheless, all were together for the grand finale. Lap times were:

Speculation as to whether Adam would break away and finish on his own again was talked about, or whether it would be a sprint between Dave Shackleton and Steve Ward. Or maybe some unknown talent would show itself. Maybe it was a mistake to put Steve Ward in group four, but I think the result would have been the same. It was a good finish and Shack’s attack was beaten only by a few inches.

Next, and last until next year, event will be on the Little Weighton circuit and there is usually a prize giving afterwards in the pub in that village – the Black Horse (this has to be checked out). Should be a good turnout. Adam Duggleby has built himself an almost unassailable lead in the points competition, only Steve Guymer can catch him, but he has to get in the first five and Adam score none. But could the scratch group get to the front of the race in time if Adam wasn’t there?  Come and see.
