Walkington Circuit 10th June 2010

The wind was blowing more from the north for this second event on the Walkington course affording a very fast descent from Hunsley crossroads and a headwind into the finishing straight. This gave Adam Duggleby the opportunity to see who could match his speed on this descent. The answer was quite simple; no one.

There was a reduction of a minute between the handicap between those in groups two and three which was also reflected in the front to the back of the field allowance. These groups were:

Group 1 Mark Love, Paul Campbell, Rob Stones, Nick Irwin, Simon Pickering, Glen Harrison, Richard Guymer , Nicky Moore and Steve Roebuck

Group 2 David Atkin, Craig Medcalf, Steve Cooper, Chris Holland, Martin Oliver. Phil Bixby, Neil Dean, Gary Trees, Tom Jackson, Adam Yates, Gary Knowles, Andrew Carroll, Graham Lonsdale, Nathan Chester, Brad Palmer and Andy Faichney

Group 3 Tony Goundry, Benjamin Bell, Rob Busby, Mark Robinson, Mark Walker, Ian Chapman, Martin Cockerill, Matthew Enticknap, Paul Waddington, Paul Hickman, Adam Oliver, Rob Brown and Chris Burton

Group 4 David Brearley, Stephen Swales, Lee Watson, Thomas Atkinson, John Ketley and Garry Fulstow.

Group 5 Adam Duggleby, Matthew Fenton, Richard Moore, Chris Daddy, Nathan Wilson, Karl Downes, Jason Young, Steve Ward, Colin Baldwin and Dean Fulstow

Groups four and five combined on lap two, as did groups one and two on lap three. Duggleby, however, wasn’t waiting around as by the end of lap three he had left his scratch group companions 25 seconds in his wake with the daunting task of catching the two groups in front who still had up to a minute and a quarter advantage. This seemed to be no problem as he even increased his speed on the last lap to finish with over half a minute to spare. Curiously, if you examine the lap timings you’ll notice that groups three and four slowed down when they came together.
