City RC (Hull) Open 10 – 6th April 2007
Good Friday Open 10 Report
All of us hoping to get a early ride on the revised V718 had a disappointment as the event was switched to V714 Newport – Howden course as the road works on new Melton junction had not been finished on time. With a lot of riders not signing on because of course change this at least gave Karl Downes a ride as he was on reserve lists to add to the other 3 club members riding the event, Andy Barnes, Mark Sumner and Dean Fulstow.
However, for those that rode this was a near perfect day, sunny, cool but warm in the sun and light head wind on the shorter outwards leg to Howden turn. Still a hard ride as due to the heavy road surface, parts of the course are now in very poor state of repair. Our times where as follows
Karl Downes – 23’01
Andy Barnes – 23’36
Dean Fulstow – 24’06
Mark Sumner – 25’03
Andy Barnes had the misfortune to get delayed behind a car following a tractor on the faster return leg. Karl’s time was good enough to win group D. The event was won by Vince Macklin in the impressive time of 21’48.
The only disappointment was that only 4 riders from Hull Thursday rode the event which is right on our doorstep.
