Hull Thursday RC Open TT – Skidby – 27th July 2006

The night started as a very warm, pleasant summers evening. But the thundery weather from the previous night was on everyone’s mind. Would it hold off today?

Due to the mix up with dates, the event was being held on the same night as other races and TT’s. So the field was only 23 riders. 1 couldn’t make it, and 4 no shows meant it was down to 18.

As the riders started setting off, more clouds started appearing and the thunder started to growl in the distance. I think everyone got round before the rain really started to come down, but some care was needed for the later riders as the roads were getting a little slippery in places.

The top places were well fought out after some “excitement” with the top spots.

Blair Buss from Team Swift-Allsports almost took the wrong turning after missing the marshals and following some bike riders out for their evening ride. But he realised and got back on track, but it cost him some time.

And Hull Thursday’s Chris Whitelam had trouble when a parked car decided to pull out in front of him, hitting the brakes he realised he wasn’t going to stop due to the slippery roads, so was forced across the road almost in front of an oncoming car!

Blair Buss took First prize, with Chris Whitelam second. Andy Barnes got third prize. Well done to them.

I hope everyone had a good night racing, and thanks for riding.

Big thanks go to the timekeepers, “push off’er” and marshals. Especially the ones that came to my aid from other clubs, and even work colleagues. And thanks go to the Skidby CE School for use of the facilities and to the headmaster, who was quite happy to throw on a marshal jacket and help out at a corner. I hope all the helpers had a good night too. It’s a shame more club members couldn’t come out to help, everyone too busy I guess.
