Another good gathering in Brantingham for the midsummer style hill climb (as opposed to climbing in the cool of Autumn in October). First off was young Phil Eden and he still had a minute in hand arriving first at the top. Phil was inside 4 minutes but Dean, off number three, was inside 3 minutes and this was the standard to beat. Mark Walker did a good 3.16 but then it was Nat Wilson’s ride which hit the leader board, a 2.46 catching Nathan Chester in the process.

Nathan admittedly rambled up but there you are, Phil, you’ve beaten the current record holder for this hill.

Andy Peers did 3.17 to beat Andy Barnes by a second; Paul Purdy a 3.22 and Paul Jolliffe a good 3.03. Ian Cartwright did a 3.40 which to me was one of the best rides of the night holding off his son Vince to the finish. Vince did a storming 2.48 to record second fastest and last man Mattie Barratt a good 3.01 to take fourth, two seconds slower than Dean.

A good crowd at the finish to cheer the riders on, and a look at the result around Brantingham’s village pond make this one of the best spectator events on our calendar. This is a young man’s game so put your money on Vince Cartwright to win this next year.
