Winter training – helpers wanted

The annual early season training sessions are on over the forthcoming weeks and it would be great if you would like to take part.

We’ve had quite a large number of participants over the last few years and Richard and I really need some help to monitor them and would really appreciate some help. It’s only for an hour at either Brantingham or Sproatley.

I have in the past had to rely on older members but it’s not fair to keep asking them – Ray Robson, for instance is now 86 but he still helps. It’s a good way to get to know local riders and their abilities – it’s not a race, but a training session, where riders are grouped into abilities.

If the weather makes it impossible to hold these sessions, and we decide to cancel any, then I would let you know, if you can tell me you can help.

We will need someone to help Richard when I can’t – I am getting on a bit, you know.

Best regards for the new year.

Details of the sessions at Brantingham

It gives you more confidence in a group, hones your techniques such as following wheels, cornering, echeloning and improving your speed. Most of all it gets you fit.

On each Saturday afternoon in January, ie 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th, we’ll be starting at 2:00 pm on the Brantingham circuit. That’s on the little road that runs from Stockbridge roundabout to Brantingham village (see map).

Then the four Saturdays in February, the 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd, we move east of the city to Sproatley, quite near to the Blue Bell pub, and use a quiet 3½ mile circuit there for an hour.

Richard Guymer and I will sort out the groups as usual.  Incidentally, we could use some help, especially perhaps from some of the newer members. Why not come out and see what’s going on? By the way, you may find it best to have mudguards if the roads are wet.
