Cliff Pratt Cycles Evening Cross League Round 2

The second of Cliff Pratt Cycles Wednesday night cyclo-cross races on 24 September saw another floodlit race at Costello Stadium excellently organised by City RC

Again conditions started off very fast and dry but with the nights closing in, the dew and the slippier conditions arrived earlier and caused problems on the later races, a bit a careful course adjustment added a few more secondsto the races to make lap time a bit longer than the previous weeks.

In the under-12 race again Ozzy Stringer from Richardson’s CC led from the start with only Luke Quigley from CRC Hull on the same lap after a furious 6 laps.

Numbers in the Youth Race were up and with no Ben Turner, Clifton CC’s Ben Wait led from start to finish followed by Fulford Cycles’ Will Turley in second followed by Clifton CC’s Cavan Walker, who was third.

Fin Pickering racing for Clifton, came an excellent 5th even though he is officially still under 12.

With the flood lights on from the start for the adults’ race, and with 61 riders, the decision was taken to grid the top riders from the previous race and Rapha’s pro Graham Briggs.

Briggs led from the start followed by Nick Barnes for the first 2 laps until a slip on the wet grass meant he lost touch and finished in second.

Third was Tom Ramsey from Crosstrax and 4th Batley CC’s Ben Cooper making 3 of the top 4 under 23 riders.

Another good battle between HTRC’s Richard Dean and Dave Millson only lasted until the end of the first lap when Richard took the first of his SEVEN offs!

He lost a good deal of time searching on his hands and knees for his catapulted Garmin in the dark – the things folk do to improve on their Strava segments!

First Vet was PH Mas’ David Shaw in 5th and first Lady was Clifton CC’s Fiona Beard.

Next race in the series was on Wednesday 8th October, with the last of the series on Saturday 11th October.
