Club Run Sunday 2 November 2014

Hi, The report’s a bit late this week. I’ve been repairing the bike and nursing my wounds!

The weather was pretty grim over night into Sunday morning and I think a few stayed under the covers. However by 9.30 am the rain had stopped and the roads were starting to dry out.

Eight of us were there; Neil D, Neil C, Rich D, Matt Johnson, Alex Dalton – sporting a sun tan far too good for this time of year obtained after a week in Mexico, and young Trotter – Jacob – plus one other, who unfortunately I do not know the name of, but I am sure I will be enlightened by someone.
Neil Dean has been after going to Seaways Cafe at Fridaythorpe for ages, the wind was in the right direction (nearly) so he got his way.

I’d forgotten my spare tube and levers so after a quick pit stop at Guymer Towers we set off to Little Weighton and Walkington.

With the two Neils on the front it was to be no easy ride.

Through South Dalton I asked for one to be knocked off and they duly obliged.

I think it was just me who had the guts to ask or maybe it was only me who could still utter the words. I think we were definitely beyond level 4.

Then it was across the B1248 and onto the Bracken Road which now; as I have said before, is like the Arenburg but with no cobbles!

Unfortunately for me I still fell off at the left hand bend at Kirkburn.

Not too much damage either to me or my bike though, just a few holes in me, my pride and my bib tights! Oh, and a bit of damage to my STIs and my bar tape.

I must admit though as I was seemingly flying through the air in slow motion I was thinking that someone would have to be calling the paramedics.

After I picked my self up we were off to Garton and Sledmere, Duggleby, Wharram le Street, Birdsall, up Birdsall Brow and the left turn to Thixendale.

By this time Richard Dean was starving and was clearly having a major case of BONK whilst Clem was testing himself against tanned Alex up the climbs.

We regrouped at Neil Dean’s beloved Seaways where Richard Dean devoured steak pie, chips and beans and endless amounts of flap jack whilst I licked my wounds!

Neil C caught my injuries on camera and unbeknown to me put them on the internet thingy for the whole world to see.

It’s funny the things that people tick that they like!

Soon we had to leave the relative warmth of the cafe and head off towards Garrowby and the left turns towards Huggate.

On the fast down hill section towards North Dalton it became apparant that my front mudguard had taken a hit during my spill and to prevent another accident Richard Dean and I stopped to sort it out.

No doubt the others were too concerned with the sprint for North Dalton (which I would have easily taken of course had I been there) to notice that they were now down to six!

We sorted the problem and rode the rest of the way to Skidby as a pair, meeting Neil Dean at the top of Harland Way.

Most of us had done about 70 miles from Skidby but Rich Dean had done well over a hundred by the time he got back to Hedon. No doubt he slept well on Sunday night.

Regards,

Richard Guymer

PS I won’t be on the regular run next Sunday as I’m doing the Movember ride on Saturday but maybe at Skidby at 9.30 but will do a shorter ride.

The following week, the 16th, I’m at the ABCC conference so won’t be out but will go out on the Saturday if any one else fancies a ride out.
