Cycopaths mountain biking report 2014
The ‘Cycopaths’ Mountain Bike section of the club celebrated its 25th year this summer.
Started by myself, John Ulyatt, and Willem Verschoor one Wednesday evening all those years ago, it has seen approximately 300 riders pass through the ranks.
At present we have 180 members on our emailing list and 146 on our Facebook page with new people seeming to appear on a weekly basis!

I remember the first ride both of us ever did was from Huggate and we were nervous about doing a 15 miler! How times change!
Mountain biking rides are still the mainstay for The Cycopaths do but the club has evolved over the years and now also includes road riding and night rides.
There are both younger riders, mature (?) riders and some ladies.
The weekly Wednesday evening summer rides have, as ever, been well supported.
These rides vary from 20 to 35 miles and always finish with a well-earned pint in the pub.
There is a well-supported group for road rides on Tuesday evenings, 30 – 40 miles meeting Risby or Hessle (for trips into Lincolnshire).
Winter rides are now well underway on Sunday mornings and often finish at a café for a well-earned breakfast.
Winter night rides on Wednesdays are well-supported, with rides around the Wolds, and include excursions to Sherwood Pines, Broughton/Twigmoor Woods (including a very fast ride through the gay dogging car park!) and Dalby.
Ridiculously bright lights and a love of getting muddy are a must for these rides!
We have just started to do a some winter night road rides in the Lincolnshire Wolds as well, on Tuesday evenings.
The big yearly bash is at Keldy Cabins around March and is very well supported with 5 cabins full last year, a weekends cycling and boozing in the North York Moors. Hot tubs until the early hours after an exotic night out in Pickering!!
Big Kev will also be arranging his yearly bash together with ‘The Resrats’ at Sherwood Forest in March. Once again further details will be on the website nearer the date.
We have even done some walking including the Minster Way and some of the Cleveland Way (another excuse for beer!).
The Cycopaths website has lists of the rides, news (childish banter) and ‘off piste’ ride details are via the club emailing list which can be joined on our website:

The ‘Cycos’ welcome anyone to ride (and drink) with them and look forward to continuing well into the future.
Happy and safe cycling
