Team Thursday take on CRC’s Hardrider’s 25 mile TTT
Saturday the 12th March saw the first open TT event of the season for Thursday riders with Mark Mckeown and Andy Millar (second claim) teaming up to take on City Road Club’s 2up 25 mile team time trial on the V733 hardrider’s course.
The course enjoyed a brisk southerly wind on the faster outward leg from Beverley to Driffield on the A164 and the imbalance between the Thursday pair began to show as early as Cranswick, with Mark at his limit on Andy’s wheel after working at the front for only a limited period. Regrouping after the first split on the rise before Cranswick, the irrepressible Andy kept pushing the pace causing a couple of further splits before a manageable rhythm was attained and Mark managed to hang in and put in a couple of short stints towards the finish into the head wind on the slower more rolling return section on the B1248.
Despite Mark’s limited top end holding the pair back they still achieved a credible 6th place in 57.38, with most of the other teams covering the ground not too much faster.
Local brothers John and Dave Brearley took the honours with a scorching time of 51.54, over three minutes quicker than their nearest rivals.
Doubtless Andy would’ve been touching the podium if not having to back off but a decent training session was had by both riders so all in all a good session.
Many thanks to Andy Faichney and other organisers and clubmates at City Road Club for putting the event on.
