Focus Rides have been organising a mtb series for a couple of years now. This year they haven’t run it through BC so reverted to categories, youth/junior, senior (Div 1,2 &3) & u13s. I entered div 2 having never ridden their events before.

This round was held on a farm at Withcall in the beautiful Lincolnshire Wolds near Louth.

After a quick course walk it was time for a warmup then get to the start line. The div 1s had started 15 mins before and had completed a lap before we tore off up the gravel road to the first wood. The single track through the trees weaved and flowed with short sharp descents and climbs and out onto a gentle grassy climb to the next wood. Again, the single track twisted on a lesser gradient and back out to descend dipping into the top of the first wood.

The next section was up a grassy field with hair pin bends rising to a high point. A fast downhill with a kicker jump into a bomb hole section before rising back up to the top of the field. Dropper seat post activated and a plumet through a loose gully and steep wooded drop back to the start/finish.

Div 2 was an hour. I managed four laps before the hour so could go for one more.

Starting from the back i slowly made my way into the top ten. I made my move on the last lap on the steady climb to distance a fellow racer I had been yo yo with for the previous couple of laps.

I was pleased finishing 8th and buzzing to enter further rounds in the series.
