3rd/4th Cat 02/05/24Around 25 riders started on the first of hopefully many glorious evenings to come, the foul weather since last summer hopefully to soon become a distant memory.

Graced with a NNE wind and a clockwise direction the race was brought to life early by a rider attacking on the first corner which amused the bunch as it was a neutralised first lap!

The usual early alternating attacks didn’t stick, Cliff Pratt’s keeping themselves busy throughout, until two riders weren’t chased and they stuck.  A steady mid section of the race followed where nobody seemed too keen to work for long, especially in the strong headwind down the shorter straight, until around ten minutes to go two more jumped and got a decent gap.  Hull Thursday’s Lee Coulson was most interested in making it to the finish by this point feeling his lack of off-season training and limited ability to contribute to the running,  where fellow Thursday rider Ermin Huremovic was finding his legs loosened and able to work well,  later discovering a personal peak in 20 minute power over the course of the event promising.

With 6 laps to go it was obvious to Lee a sprint for 5th was going to happen and he focused on positioning well.  Ermin becoming swamped Lee had got a good roll up to speed out of the last corner and went for it,  bringing the bunch home and securing 5th place.

A note for all,  that the rider who had the bunch laughing on the first lap had the last one at the finish,  as he won it!  ?
