HTRC present The Inbetween Weeks #1. 09-05-23

Race one – 3rd/4th Cat
The first of the Inbetween events at Ennerdale this year and a lower turn out than previous years despite the perfect sunny weather and zero wind.  A higher chance of points greeted the 18 riders who lined up and once underway a break of two got clear.  Daniel Kemp (Prologue RT) with Luke Higginbottom (City RC) were joined after creating space by Rob Jennings  (Clancy Briggs),  who bridged across and the three of them worked a good lead.

The pace proving too much for hard working Jennings after his solo bridge and he dropped back to the bunch.  Higginbottom couldn’t stay with Kemp either eventually soloing for second place.

Daniel, the only junior in the field pulled away on his own to nearly lap the field by the time he took the chequered flag.  Alex Robinson of Clifton CC took third to bring home the bunch sprint.

Race two – E/1/2/3 cat.
Just 10 started the race but the race kicked off on lap 1!  Lots of early attacks, some very savage and three riders from the first race jacked in very early on.  Within another five minutes and another two had been dropped leaving only five to play games for the last 30 minutes.

One with the legs was Daniel Kemp, winner from race one,  having some further solo time off the front again,  but with strong company on the track he was brought back.   Mark Walker, Jon Apaloo, Dave Shackleton and Tom Ramsey all having attacks and counter attacks until with three laps to go,  Shack’ and Ramsey got away to duel it out.  Tom getting the better of Shack’ this time out to win by just a few bike lengths.
