REPORT: Clockwise direction with a S wind.
This weeks tactic was to stay hidden for the first 20 minutes because of breaks usually forming at this point. First attack was, of course, by a Cliff Pratt rider and then the usual rhythm of attack and counter attack where at one point I found myself in a group with most of the Cliff Pratt team and a gap off the peloton. The 20 minute mark came and went and there was no break attempt. The lap boards came up and just before 3 laps remaining an attack shot through on the last corner and quickly got a quarter of a lap.
Crash on first corner of the last lap split the field meaning I had to accelerate into a face full of wind and legs faded after the last corner. However, for the entire series I came within the top 15!

My tactic today was to pick a rider and follow them. The race started with an early attack by Cliff Pratt which was then brought back and then countered by another Cliff Pratt rider. Another two riders bridged across and the trio maintained a half lap gap.
The group wasn’t coordinated in any way. All attempts to share pulls on the front resulted in a random rider attacking and breaking up the rhythm, however, during this time one of the riders from the three up front had been dropped and we’d got the remaining two within 10 metres.
Around the 20 minute mark, I was in the middle of the pack when my rider of choice shot off with two other riders on the right side of the track and joined the other two up ahead. They were far more motivated and quickly brought the gap back out to more than half a lap. Meanwhile, more inconsistency in the group with attacks taking chunks out of each other and then slowing down when the attack was caught.

I was in grumpy mood and nearly didn’t turn up because of forecasted rain. Glad I did because luckily it only rained during the warmup before hand but what a frustrating race! To the point where I found myself going off the front so I could take the corners and lines at my own speed. It all came back together before the prem lap and that was where the split happened. 3 riders got a gap and steadily increased it. One rider bridged across and after a few laps the group out front became 2. They worked smoothly for the rest of the race whilst back in the pack there was no one was willing to trade pulls and the gap got bigger and bigger after every attack. They eventually finished a lap ahead. My last lap started with my calves cramping into the first corner and powering on regardless only to fade on the finishing straight with the head wind and have the bunch overtake me. Zero pedal strikes this time around though!

REPORT: Clockwise direction with a W wind.
First three quarters of the race featured a few attacks that were left to dangle and always brought back when the group got organised. Only memorable moment for me was kissing the ground with my pedal for the first time by pedalling too early in the first corner. Once the 6 lap board came up an eery silence came over everyone keeping an eye on each other until the last lap. The first attacks came out of the first corner and a Clifton rider got a gap and I followed an SPCC rider. After the second corner I sprinted down the left for a bit of protection from the wind and to catch the Clifton rider, and this was where I struck my pedal for the second time but kept it up and it sprinted back up to speed and then it was head down through the fourth corner in second position in an attempt to catch first. Unfortunately, the SPCC rider caught me within the last 15 metres, nevertheless I’d given enough to hold on to third place.

– Great fun tonight.
– First attack came early by two riders who have won from the break before so I decided to bridge across which took almost two laps and I was joined by 3 other riders just as I made it across to total 6 and then everyone sat up.
– Really pleased with my handling tonight through the corners and kept a lot of my speed sometimes allowing me to overtake riders without pedalling.
– Usual attacks from Cliff Pratt and Wilson Wheels riders but never given more than ¼ lap gap
– Found myself on the front with 4 to 3 laps and started soft pedalling to be ready for the inevitable uptick in pace, however, the remaining laps were cagey with the entire bunch still together
– Last lap, pace increased, and I took the outside line on the top corner putting me in a great position for the right turn. A little bit of argy bargy but then I followed the wheel of a Clifton rider into the last corner at 58.5 kph. Heard a bang noise from behind. Carrying more speed out of the corner I sprinted with calves screaming, Clifton rider on my left and he managed to stay half a wheel ahead. Very happy with my 6th.
-The bang noise from behind was caused by one rider coming down. He came off okay with very little injury.
-1st and 2nd place were separated by less than a tyre!

Three great rides by HTRC riders. A 3rd, 5th and 10th over both races.

Cliff Pratt Inbetween Weeks Crit.
Ennerdale Circuit – 04/07/24. Clockwise

RESULT 5TH.

Strong gusting winds and fairly sunny conditions for the night. Around 25 started the race I’d say with a few new faces. With not being on the bike so much over the last 6weeks my focus this race like last week was to work in the middle of the group, get a full race workout and if anything left for the finish then see what happens… The pace was very steady to start with the odd burst but most of us not fancying the wind exposure. A couple of solo riders got away and eventually joined up, with the rest staying together. A concerted group effort mid race for maybe 5laps was high tempo and a good hard workout just to hold wheels so I was happy with that. This actually dropped nearly half the field one by one so maybe 12-15 left with 6laps to go. The usual long range finishing attacks to avoid a sprint which really stretched me but managed to hold around the front 6 of the bunch with a lap to go, and the bunch still together. Moving up a little in the sprint grab 5th overall on the line. Feeling spent I considered it a good nights work out and a couple of point as a bonus.

REPORT:
Clockwise direction with a W wind. Tough night where very few attacks stuck and no one wanted to work. One rider attacked half way through and was joined later by another rider. Any attempts to chase them down were never coordinated enough so they managed to pull away to get half a lap advantage. It was a bit messy in the final two laps and at one point I was surprised to find myself almost off the back because riders had been dropping throughout the race, but, I did identify two riders working together and tried to stay on the back of their wheels. Unfortunately finished out of the top 10 so still no points for the category upgrade.

REPORT:
After a solid 5th last week in the Cliff Pratt Series race & a win in the Lund time trial the night before, i went into the in between weeks’ E123 race with a bit of optimism that i was heading in the right direction.
12 lined up for the start, and after an early attack, two riders went clear & i worked hard to bridge across to them.
That was it for the night really, as the three of us worked well together out front & stayed away, the chasing bunch shattered into ones and twos.
Having committed to work into the headwind, i had nothing left for the sprint really & was easily beaten into 3rd, Tom Ramsey (Wold Top) taking a comfortable win. Another pretty good week though & some more points.
