My tactic for the race was to hold on until the 20 minute mark because that seems to be the moment moves go and stick. However, the first two laps were a shock to the system with 46.2kph followed by 48.7kph and I completely forgot about the plan because a few laps later VCB got one of their riders into a 3 man break.
It became obvious that two of the riders near the front of the group were disrupting any coordinated efforts to chase the break because they had team mates in it so there were constant surges and the size of the gap yoyoed.
Eventually all this work had taken it’s toll on me because I felt exhausted and began drifting back through the group and in a dark moment I was two bike lengths off the back and considered pulling the pin, however, after a bit of internal talking I got out of the saddle and rejoined the back and began picking my way through the group by taking the shorter lines through corners and then the 6 lap board came up and I was near the front again.
The laps got faster and then, bizarrely, slower as they counted down, maybe everyone had tired themselves out from the beginning? As the final lap bell rung Petuaria RC were on the front and one rider was dropping back and I decided to go to the left, I don’t actually know what happened, maybe his bars hooked onto mine, or someone bumped him into me because it felt like a lot of weight on the bars stopping me from moving left. The shouting started, my brakes went on and I being pulled to the right, more shouting, me praying I don’t fall because I’m moving from the centre of the track to the grass verge to the right. Finally I made it to a stop at the edge of the track with 2 or 3 riders falling into the grass. I’m feeling incredibly lucky to have come off completely unscathed!

REPORT:
Very frenetic race this time around! I came into this one with aim of pedalling around as many of the corners as possible to lessen the surges, however, two riders went off the front quite early on and the chase was disorganised until the 20-minute mark where the catch was made. 3 riders jumped across with one of the original riders and quickly built up a half lap advantage. Meanwhile the uncoordinated chasing continued where some of us would try to pulling at the front, but, it was always a case of 1 to 3 riders would do a turn and then someone would attack. This resulted in the group splitting with a group of 8 getting a gap and at this point I was in the third group in the road. The 6 lap board went up, THANK GOD, because it had been fast and relentless for the vast majority. The chaos continued into the second to last lap as the 4 riders from the first group lapped us and in the final lap riders from my group were sprinting after them. The average speed of the entire race was 42.1 km/h including the neutralised lap with only 3 laps being under 40km/h and the weather was great and I improved my pedalling.

REPORT: Clockwise direction with a westerly wind.
First race of the year and coupled with a different bike for racing it took a fair few laps to get into the rhythm. The first 10 minutes were intense with breaks trying to form and somewhere between 6-8 riders were eventually let go.
My next 20 minutes was spent trying regain my cornering confidence because gaps kept opening up on the two sharpest corners and I would have to accelerate each time to close it, meanwhile, the break was down to 4 after dropping riders. Eventually the 6 lap board appeared and I managed to gain some kind of flow state where I was less worried about pedal strike and kept myself near the front. With 2 laps everyone upped the ante and on the final lap after the first corner I found myself perfectly positioned to be second wheel and protected from the wind. As he pulled off it was time to get my head down and take choice lines through the corners, I kept a wider line to the left in the final corner and luckily Harry from VCB appeared at the perfect time just as I was fading so I could slot in, and use him as a carrot to keep the rest of the field a few bike lengths away.
