Geoff is a regular supporter of events often seen with time piece in hand and vying for the best dressed trophy year in year out. Geoff joined Hull Thursday Road Club in 1967 and was soon a regular on club runs. He has competed in time trails, road racing and mountain bike racing.
He currently enjoys regular road rides and is also a keen mountain biker preferring cross country riding in Wales and Scotland, as well as more locally in the peak district. He is also a regular on Zwift.
As a type 1 diabetic his goals are to educate, inspire, and motivate others to get riding.
Richard started cycling in 1972 with the City Road Club (Hull) later becoming a life member.
He has competed in time trials, road races, mountain bike, cyclo-cross and track. He has also organised events in most of these disciplines. Latterly his racing took second place to transporting son Steve around the country and abroad to race first in British Schools events and then BC and CTT events. Recently he has taken to riding in the French Alps and has ridden the Alps Open Tour.
Richard is also a qualified coach with the Association of British Cycling Coaches (ABCC) and sits on their national committee.
Both Richard and Lee have broad coaching and youth development experience and have given their time organising and managing fun cycle sport based activities, both on and off road.
As Club Coach & Youth Development Officers Lee & Richard work with club to establish and increase the club’s skills, capacity and confidence. Lee is pictured with his young family.
This helps ensure activities are led to a high standard by safe and qualified leaders and can better engage with a wider audience. They both provide cycling opportunities for children coming up through the ranks to increase their cycling skills. Lee prides himself in supporting the youngsters, he also acts as our road and track secretary.
Dave Millson was recently re-elected as the Club Secretary for the current season and is a keen off road enthusiast taking part in many a cyclo-cross, and mountain bike events as well as road.
A strong cyclist Lee has plenty of experience on both track, road and other cycle disciplines, and he’s also a dab hand at organising events too.
Angie started out just cycling to work and later took up mountain biking with regular ride locally in the Dales and The peak district also Scotland and Wales are still visited regularly.
Taking up road cycling after a few years she has become a regular on club runs and other club trips such as last year’s ride to Newcastle, and completing the tough Paris Roubaix sportive along with her Hull Thursday team mates.
As a qualified accountant she is the clubs treasurer.
Mark has raced with Hull Thursday over a fair period and has a deep appreciation for the sporting time trial and road race courses Hull Thursday has promoted over the years. As a relatively late starter to active cycle sport in his twenties, and now tipped over a half century in years, he has good reason for his desire to promote cycle sport.
It’s not just the fun and social aspects of the racing scene, but also an appreciation of the benefits to lifelong health and the world we live in through cycling as transport.
Reflecting on his education in sport health and exercise science, he has experience as a coach and as sponsored racing team creator and manager. He occasionally provides health and performance focused consultations for those wanting to eek out their best.
We currently have roles available to any members who wish to contribute in helping us run the cycling club. If you are interested in taking up a fabulous opportunity please email the Club Secretary Dave Millson to register your interest.
