Throughout the racing season Hull Thursday Road Club promote a series of approximately 10 club time trials held on sporting circuits in the villages around Hull.
All the events are held on quiet country lanes and are an ideal introduction to time trialling.
In April, as the nights get lighter, the events move to weekday evenings and are held on alternate weeks throughout the season.
The circuits vary in length between 4 and 25 miles and vary from pan-flat to hilly. Several of the courses are multi-lap events and shorter distance events are included for ladies and riders under 16 years of age.
Entry to events can be made either for the full series at the beginning of the year, or to individual events on an ad-hoc basis.
For the best part of the last 20 years the series has been sponsored by local bike shops and prizes are awarded to a total value of nearly £1000, and shared between the winners in the various categories being contested.
All members of HTRC are welcome to enter any of the events. The events are also open to members of other cycling clubs registered with Cycling Time Trials (CTT), including triathlon clubs, and riders are welcome to come along and test themselves out against the series regulars.
All riders are required to marshal at two events to ensure the races are safely organised.
In addition there is a full programme of open events taking place throughout Yorkshire mainly on dual carriageway courses. Distances range from 10 to 100 miles with longer events over 12 hours for the truly hardcore enthusiasts. A full list of events can be found on the CTT website http://www.ctt.org.uk. Entries for these events need to be made on an official CTT entry form and submitted to the organiser 10 to 14 days before the date of the event.
