First open TT win of the season for Thursday rider

29/02/2016

Jim Trevor, the reigning Hull Thursday Time Trial Champion, took Hull Thursday’s first open TT victory of the 2016 on Sunday 28th February

in the YCF Medium Gear ‘10’ on the V910, clocking 25:34 and beating second placed Mark Scothern (28:06) of Vegetarian C & AC by 2:32.

The event is open to all riders but the bicycle must be restricted to a 72” gear, which equates to 48×18. Normally this involves riding a single-geared bike.

Most who know ‘Jymmy’ personally, know of his love for single geared bikes. Jim can often be seen on winter club runs battling a single gear over the climbs and descents of the local Yorkshire Wolds. In this event Jim had to average a cadence of over 110 rpm for the duration of the race to clock his time. Considering this course has 9 roundabouts to negotiate, where cadence is lost, his real average was probably nearer to 115 rpm.

HTRC website spoke exclusively to Jim after the victory and he made the following comments, “It was a tricky day for the medium gear event, with a head breeze up the drag to the turn which was then followed by a downhill 5.5 miles with a breeze on your back. At times on the return leg I was revving at 145 rpm.

“I was thankful to see the roundabouts as an excuse to ease off. I felt like a washing machine on a spin cycle. Still it was worth it to come home with the win, a nice prize pot (£25 winner’s money) and take the early lead the British Medium Gear TT Championship.”

See ‘Jymmy’ below post event with his single geared bike, minus the wheels.

The medium-geared event was closely followed by the unrestricted YCF ‘10’ in which three other Thursday riders competed representing the club – JP Pretorius, John Savage and Rich Walker.

Jim Trevor 25:34 (72” restricted)
JP Pretorius 25:48
John Savage 27:13
Rich Walker 28:45
Winner : Phillip Graves – Clifton CC York – 21:27

The next Y.C.F. event is the Y.C.F. ‘10’ on O10/1 (Hatfield) on 16th April, 2016.
The next local round of the British Medium Gear Championship is Round 5 on the 9th April, 2016, again on the V910.

Rounds 2, 3 and 4 are not locally-based.
